The area features mile upon mile of purpose-built trails including forest walks, woodland singletrack and heather clad moorland. The Park spans 600 square kilometres & is home to the largest forest in England & the largest man-made lake in northern Europe. It offers trail running enthusiasts two races of different lengths and elevation gain: the Delicious Trail Dolomiti, a 44.2 km race and the Short Delicious Trail Dolomiti, a 23 km race particularly suitable for beginners.The Kielder Ultra Trail is set in the vast expanse of Kielder Water & Forest Park. In September, there is the Delicious Festival Dolomiti, a sporting, cultural and culinary event that aims to enhance the historical, natural, alpine and enogastronomic heritage. During the event, there are three other races of various lengths: the 20km Cortina Skyrace, the 48km Cortina Trail and the 80km UltraDolomites. In June, Cortina hosts the historic Cortina-Dobbiaco Run, along the route of the former railway that connects Cortina to Dobbiaco-Toblach, and the Lavaredo Ultra Trail, a spectacular 120 km competition, starting and ending in Cortina, with a 5,800 m elevation gain. In addition, Cortina hosts several international racing competitions, making the Queen of the Dolomites a particularly popular destination for running lovers, who will have the opportunity to try the tracks of the races first hand. Many of these routes are inside the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites, an 11,200-hectare area that enables you to admire a wide range of landscapes of great naturalistic interest and habitats with a high degree of biodiversity, amongst the richest and least contaminated of the Dolomites. In addition, along the trails there are many mountain lodges and alpine farms and agriturismi offering a warm welcome and traditional aromas.
